Presented by Teresa Nickeson of Maquoketa
During an amazing three-week trip to Sri Lanka with a group of University of Dubuque science students and professors, two of whom grew up there, Nickeson experienced the local history and culture. Sri Lanka has a wide range of landforms, including mountains, waterfalls, rain forests and beaches. The group saw big animals and beautiful flora and birds. As a trip that focused on science, they visited a monkey camp, an elephant transit park and a turtle recovery center. A visit to a Buddhist temple introduced them to a religion not practiced in Dubuque. Four local college students joined the group and showed them the inside of the country and the local customs. Most importantly, the American and Sri Lankan students forged life-long friendships.
